Refunds & Cancellations
Discovery · Last updated: 28 October 2026
This policy explains what happens to your money when a booking or order is cancelled, changed or goes wrong on Discovery. It forms part of our Terms of Service. Each listing also shows its own cancellation policy before you pay; where that policy is more generous to you, it applies.
Who cancels decides the refund
| Situation | What you get back |
|---|---|
| You cancel | The amount the listing's cancellation policy allows. The platform fee is not refunded. |
| The provider cancels | A full refund, including any platform fee. |
| Discovery cancels (for example a safety, availability or system problem) | A full refund, including any platform fee. |
| An item is unavailable after you paid | A refund for that item. |
| What arrives is materially not what was described | A full or partial refund, decided on the evidence. Raise it in the app. |
Rules for specific services
Rides
If a ride is cancelled part-way, you pay for the part completed under the fare rules shown in the app, and any share of the fare that is kept goes to Discovery, not to the driver. The remainder is refunded.
Vehicle rental
- A security deposit is taken at booking and held in your wallet. It is not spendable while held.
- After drop-off, the deposit is released back to your available balance, less the cost of any documented damage.
- If we deduct anything, we share the evidence with you (for example photos and the inspection record) and you can dispute the deduction.
Tours, activities and tour guides
These can be cancelled per line item. Each item is refunded under the cancellation policy shown on its listing at the time you booked, so cancelling one guest, day or add-on does not cancel the rest.
Food and grocery orders
Prepared food that has been made and delivered as ordered is generally not refundable. Missing, wrong or damaged items are refunded for those items.
Event tickets: if the event is cancelled
If an event is cancelled, you get a full refund automatically: instantly to your Discovery wallet, or back to your card or mobile money (usually within 5-10 working days, depending on your bank).
Buyers pay no fees on event tickets.
Stays, events, restaurant reservations and intercity travel
Refunds follow the listing's stated policy, which usually depends on how far ahead of the stay, event, reservation or departure you cancel. The policy is shown before you pay and on your booking.
Where refunds go and how long they take
- Refunds go to your Discovery wallet straight away, or, where offered, back to the card or mobile money account you paid with.
- A refund to a card or mobile money account is sent through Paystack and usually arrives within 5-10 working days, depending on your bank or network.
- A refund is paid in the currency and at the rate you paid, not today's rate.
- Promotional credit used on a cancelled order is returned as promotional credit.
Held amounts
Some money in your wallet may be held, for example a rental deposit or a payment that is still clearing. Held money is shown separately from your available balance. It returns to your available balance when it is released, or is applied as the booking's terms say.
Disputes
If you disagree with a refund or a charge, open a dispute in the app from the order, or email payments@ghdiscovery.com with your order number. Tell us what happened and add any photos or documents. We will review both sides, tell you our decision and the reason, and pay any refund due. This does not affect your right to complain to a regulator or go to court.
